The Path Part II

So last week, I talked a bit about paths.  Today, I want to share with you a few ways I've learned how to discover God's best path for me.

When you're following a path, it's always important to be aware of where the path is leading you.

Several years ago, I was hiking in Colorado with some of my children at a Young Life family camp, when we discovered a path.  Being a mountain girl, who was familiar with paths, we jumped right in and began to walk, and walk and walk.  My expectation was that Young Life was a friendly place and their path would be scenic and safe.  This path was scenic, but I could tell that it was leading us further and further away from the camp.

Finally, good sense prevailed and I decided that we needed to turn around and walk back the way we had come.  The sun was setting, dinner was going to be soon and we needed to get back to camp before dark.

Upon our return, we learned that we had found a famous path that started in Denver and ended in Aspen.  This journey is a 6 hour car ride.  We started about half way through and we could have walked for days before finding the end.

That little experience helped me develop some path rules, which are also great life rules:

1.  Pray to see your path.

2.  The best path is not a secret.

3.  Choose your path wisely.

4.  Follow the path, closely.  You may only see a few steps at a time, be willing to take the next step.

5.  Watch the signs and follow the directions. Pay attention!  Dangers lurk when you are off the path. If you get off the path, return as soon as possible.  The longer you wander, the closer you are to trouble.

6.  There are at least 247 references to paths and roads in the Bible.  Remember that a life path is important and your path matters to God.

7.  God has prepared a path for each life, make it a priority to seek and find His path for you.

I have shown you the way that makes sense; I have guided you along the right path.
