Here we are, in the middle of yet another week. Sometimes it just blows my mind how time can fly. The hours pass, the days accumulate, and before you know it, another month (or year!) is in the rearview mirror.
I mean, this is the year I will turn 30! My son John will be 3 in a couple of weeks, and my tiny newborn somehow became a busy 7 month-old over night!
So often, time seems to evade me. I want to capture it, log its memories in a journal, make it stand still, or squeeze all I can out of an anticipated moment in order to savor that time (and often end up stifling it in the process).
Fortunately, our God created time, is over time, and transcends time. Our times are in His hands. And as we struggle with the concept of time, wanting more of it, hoping it will pass more quickly, or simply wanting it to stand still so we can capture it, God draws us to Himself. We bring our sense of urgency, and God quiets our hearts. He is bigger than time. He uses it and, through it, is making everything beautiful. He knows how we will spend our days and has magnificent plans for the gift of time He has given us. Let us walk freely with open hands ready to embrace this gift rather than fearing it.
"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end."
Ecclesiastes 3:11
"From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’"
Acts 17: 26-28
